The best phones out there are made by Nokia (aside: I do not work for Nokia) The Nokia e61i, yes it's a "smartphone" but it's also a wifi phone that runs on the Simian OS and is fully customizable with 3-party apps like those on mosh.nokia.com. So you can put skype on it and when you have a wifi signal you can use it to make a skype call...or you can get a bluetooth gps and get directions...or you can put internet radio on it and listen to NPR. You can buy one from the Nokia store and it's unlocked and you don't have to buy a data plan if you know where all the wifi hotspots are. Seriously, anyone who bought an iPhone is a fool.

I have an LG and have had several over the last few years, and I'm quite please with it, even though I've only used them on Verizon's network. I agree with you on Motorola -- they're crap. I had one once...I accidentally dropped it on carpeting and it broke in two pieces. That's in addition to the poor call quality. I would highly recommend an LG -- they're reliable with good sound quality, have a good life span, and have always seemed pretty user friendly from the stand point of both function and the feel-in-the-hand.
