What's hot:

Herman Cain’s smoking chief of staff

A new Herman Cain 2012 campaign ad features his rumpled chief of staff Mark Block sternly speaking to the camera, then taking a drag on a cigarette. This guy looks like he’s straight out of “The X-Files.”

Here’s the video, from TheHermanCain’s YouTube channel:

Granted, it’s a throw-away YouTube video, but it might be the worst political ad of the 2012 presidential campaign so far. For one thing, it’s off-brand. Herman Cain is chipper and funny, while this guy looks like hell. On top of that, the video looks and sounds cheap.

And the smoking! Maybe they’re going for a “we’re not P.C.” vibe, but couldn’t they at least make smoking seem fun? Instead this reminds me of a grim winter sidewalk in D.C., where nicotine-craving bureaucrats huddle around an ash tray outside a hulking concrete office building. Cough cough!

  1. Tom says:

    Herman Cain is a nutball!

  2. Rachel says:

Seriously, Obama must be sitting pretty considering the options coming from the GOP field.

  3. Eric Reiss says:

The drag on the cigarette is clearly a choreographed political statement, but it is truly weird and tough to decipher. Is this a message to disgruntled Tea Party-ists who don’t believe that smoking causes cancer or handling poisonous snakes is dangerous – no matter how much you believe in God? Yikes!
