We won an award

PDN magazine was just recognized with a Jesse H. Neal award for best single issue. Neal awards honor the business-to-business press. (The two finalists in our category were American Spa and Heavy Duty Trucker.) We were recognized for our September 2007 issue. Obviously this was a team effort, but I’m pleased to have contributed this story to that issue: Citizen Journalism: Part Disaster Photos, Part UFOs.

In other news, here’s a recent story of note:

I wrote a freelance story for this week’s British Journal of Photography about photo coverage of the U.S. presidential race. (The story is only available with a subscription to the magazine, unfortunately.)

A good magazine to buy

The March issue of Photo District News, the magazine where I work, just came back from the presses and we’re all especially proud of it. This is the annual issue where we profile 30 emerging photographers and run lots of their work. Other editors I work with deserve most of the credit for the PDN’s 30 feature, though I wrote two of the profiles. I also have a story in it about the health effects of working as a journalist at Ground Zero in the days after 9/11. You can read the story online here: Environmental Illnesses Haunt Some Who Covered 9/11.

If you’ve ever been vaguely curious about PDN but have never actually seen a copy, this is a great issue to start with. Look for the March issue, which should be available in camera shops, big newsstands and places like Barnes & Noble fairly soon.
